Itinerary

Day 1: Take flight to Urumqi.

 

Day 2: The capital of Xinjiang Autonomous Region. We have a full program of excursions here that a city tour, offering a glimpse of the major sights of this northwestern city of Han and Urumuqi people and 13 ethnic minorities. Spectacularly different from the usual Chinese street scene, you can see nomadic Khazakhs, a Middle-Eastern bazaar and a jade-carving centre. You'll also visit Grape Valley, in lush contrast to the desert surrounding it, and the amazing 2,000-your-old Karez Irrigation Tunnels, which brought melted snow from the mountains to this parched city.

 

Day 3: Enjoy an excursion to the Heavenly Lake, nestled in the Tianshan Mountain range. After lunch, we will go back to Urumqi for a local market exploring. We will take the overnight train to Dunhuang.

 

Day 4: In the morning, travel to the world's richest treasury of Buddhist manuscripts and art, dating back to 386AD - the Mogao Grottoes Extending over 45,000 square metres, they boast more than 2,000 murals and sculptures. In the afternoon, visit the Dunhuang Museum.

 

Day 5: Drive from Dunhuang to Liuyuan train station, passing sections of the Jiayu Guan, the very west end of the Great Wall.  And several ruined beacon-towers along the way.

 

Day 6: Today, visit three breathtaking sites, including Liujiazia, the Bingling Temple and Batashan.

 

Day 7: We will visit Xining in Qinhai today. The tour highlights Taer Lamasery, Sun and Moon Mountain, Qinghai Lake

 

Day 8: On the way back to Lanzhou by train and flight back to Beijing
